Happy Pascua Day

Pascua Day – Pascua Florida Day is a Florida state holiday that takes place on April 2 each year. The governor can also designate the week of March 27 to April 2 as “Pascua Florida Week”. Happy Pascua Day | A 5-Star Rated West Volusia Professional Construction Company

Understanding the origin of this holiday

The name “Pascua Florida” comes from the Spanish phrase for “Easter Sunday” or “flowery feast”. Juan Ponce de León, a Spanish explorer, named the area “la Florida” after discovering it on Easter Sunday. Ponce de León was searching for the fabled Bimini when he spotted the eastern coast of Florida. He landed on the northeast coast of Florida, possibly near present-day St. Augustine, between April 2 and April 8. He claimed Florida for the Spanish Crown.
Ponce de León’s expedition believed they had discovered a large island. He named the area “la Florida” in honor of “Pascua Florida”, Spain’s Easter time celebration.

Pascua Florida (pronounced [ˈpaskwa floˈɾiða]) is a Spanish term that means “flowery festival” or “feast of flowers” and is an annual celebration of Juan Ponce de León’s arrival in what is now the state of Florida.
